*Justo a tiempo para temporada de prom y el Miss Universo Puerto Rico 2013:

Queridos amigos,

Como ya conocen, fui Miss Universo Puerto Rico 2010. Uno de los beneficios de tener tal titulo es el ser patrocinada por los mejores diseñadores de joyas en la isla. Aunque me fascina mi colección de joyas del Miss Universo 2010, la realidad es que ya he utilizado todas las piezas para conferencias de prensa, eventos de gala, sesiones de fotografía y eventos de la competencia internacional de Miss Universo 2010. Es con gran tristeza en mi corazón que hoy decido pasarlas hacia adelante para que puedan ser disfrutadas por otros, al igual que hice yo.

As you already know, I was Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2010 and part of the many benefits of having such a title is that I got sponsored by the most amazing jewelry designers of the island. Although, I love my Miss Universe 2010 jewelry collection, I have already used every piece for press conferences, gala events, photo-shoots and as part of the Miss Universe 2010 competition events. It with great sadness, that I now choose to pass them on, so that they can be enjoyed by others, as I have.

Some of the jewelry pieces that I will be selling are the ones on the photos below, but I can only post 10 items at a time, so more will be posted as they are sold. *They say blondes have more fun. Well, Ive been a blonde all my life and I can assure you, I've always had fun. But, recently I've decided to join the dark side and it seems pretty fun too. Change is good, especially if it comes to renewing your hair style. I love to change it up once in a while; makes me feel refreshed. Since it seemed like a very drastic change, I decided to document it so that I could share the process will all of you, my fellow mofongueros. Enjoy! 

*Dicen que las rubias se divierten mas. Yo he sido rubia toda mi vida, y les puedo asegurar que siempre me divierto. Pero, recientemente decidí unirme al lado oscuro y debo admitir, es bastante divertido también. El cambiar y renovar nuestro estilo de cabello siempre es bueno. Personalmente, me gusta darme un cambio de 'look' cada 4-5 años; es refescante. Cuando decidí hacer este cambio tan drástico, me pareció una buena idea documentar el proceso para poder compartirlo con ustedes, mis mofongueros. Espero que les guste.

 DIY Gift Tags

*My friend Rocío surprised all of us with these very original gift tags. Instead of writing somebody's name on their present, just crop and print a funny photo of them and attach it to their present. As you can see it also works as a tree ornament. 

*Mi amiga Rocío nos sorprendió a todos con estas etiquetas súper divertidas. En ves de escribir el nombre de la persona a la que le pertenece el regalo, solo edita e imprime una foto graciosa y engánchaselo al regalo. Como pueden ver, también puede utilizarse como adorno para su árbol de navidad.

HOLIDAY SHORTBREAD COOKIES with DRIED CRANBERRIES

Ingredients:

-1 cup butter (2 sticks) 

-3/4 confectioner's sugar

-1 1/2 teaspoon salt

-2 1/3 all-purpose flour

-1 cup dried cranberries

Directions: 

Combine all ingredients (adding the cranberries at the end) to create dough. Form dough into a round log, wrap in plastic and freeze (minimum 30 min). Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut dough into 1/2 inch thick slices. Bake for 15-18 minutes. Let cool and top with butter or spread of choice.

CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE FACE

Chamomile Tea for Puffy Eyes

* Whenever I wake up with puffy eyes from a bad night's sleep, I use chamomile tea to reduce the swelling. Place the tea bags in hot water. When the tea has steeped, remove the bags and let the tea cool off a bit. Soak two cotton balls in the tea and place them over your eyes. Meanwhile, place the remaining tea in the refrigerator. After the cotton balls have cooled, squeeze them in the sink and soak them in cold tea from the fridge. Place over eyes again for a couple of minutes. 

* Cada ves que descanso poco y me levanto con los ojos inflamados, utilizo té de camomila para reducir la hinchazón. Remoje las bolsas de té en agua caliente. Luego de varios minutos, remueve las bolsas y deje el té enfriar un poco. Empape dos algodones en el té y coloque sobre sus ojos. Mientras tanto, ponga el té restante en el refrigerador. Cuando los algodones se hayan enfriado, escúrralos sobre el fregadero y remoje en el té, ya frío, que guardo en el refrigerador. Coloque sobre sus ojos nuevamente por varios minutos.

GARBANDAZA A LO 'MARIANA'

Ingredientes: 

-1 lata garbanzos (sin liquido)

-2 cdas aceite de oliva

-2 cdas sofrito

-1 1/2 taza agua

-jamón de cocinar a gusto (picado en pedacitos)

-tocineta a gusto (picado en pedacitos)

-patatas o zanahorias a gusto (picadas en pedacitos)

-1 cubito de sabor a pollo

-1 cda ajo molido

-1 sobrecito Sazón Culantro y Achiote

-una pizca de pimienta

(Personalmente, no le echo sal porque los ingredientes ya tienen mucho sabor. Pero les recomiendo que vayan probando y modificando a su gusto.)

Instrucciones:

En un caldero pequeño, eche el aceite, sofrito, jamón, tocineta y ajo y sofría por varios minutos. Luego, eche los garbanzos, seguidos por el agua, zanahorias o patatas, cubito de pollo, sobrecito de Sazón y la pimienta. Reduzca el fuego a temperatura mediana y deje cocinar por varios minutos hasta que los garbanzos y zanahorias/patatas estén cocinadas.

Mariana's Stir Fry Sauce

Ingredients for sauce:

-1/2 cup soy sauce

-1/2 cup vegetable broth

-2 tablespoons brown sugar

-1 tablespoon garlic powder or minced garlic

-2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

-dash salt

-dash cayenne pepper

-dash paprika

Directions:

In a medium skillet saute you favorite veggies with your choice of meat. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce. Add the sauce mix to the skillet and saute till the sauce thickens a bit. Serve over pasta, rice, quinoa, couscous or rice noodles.
